Even if baked goods aren’t your typical jam, this vintage-inspired coffee cake recipe is so easy and requires minimal, common ingredients.

Traditionally this is called Autumn Breakfast Cake because it uses warm spices such as cinnamon. But the good news is, you can serve it in any season.

Can you freeze coffee cake for use later? You sure can. Here is how to freeze coffee cake: Simply allow the cake to cool to room temperature. Once cool, wrap in two layers of plastic wrap. Then, wrap in two layers of aluminum foil. Add extra protection by placing in an air tight container if possible.

You can keep your coffee cake frozen for several weeks. Then, just remove the cake and allow it several hours to thaw prior to serving.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this easy coffee cake recipe. As you can see, these are common, easy-to-find pantry staples you most likely already have on hand.

Ingredients:

  • Crisco
  • sugar
  • egg
  • milk
  • sifted flour
  • baking powder
  • salt

Topping ingredients:

  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon
  • Crisco

Directions:

  1. Begin by blending the sugar, egg, and Crisco until light and fluffy.
  2. And in the milk and dry ingredients. Mix well until nice and smooth.
  3. Grease an 8×8 pan. Pour mixture in.
  4. Mix the topping ingredients well. Sprinkle the mixture with your topping ingredients.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until cooked through and the topping is lightly golden.

  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Topping ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon melted Crisco

Instructions
